𝗔𝗦𝗜𝟬𝟮: 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 A tool does not need to be malicious to become dangerous. Sometimes the tool is trusted, the credentials are valid and the API call is allowed. The failure happens because the agent uses that legitimate capability in the wrong context.
Traditional controls may see approved software using valid access. Agentic security must also ask whether the action makes sense.
Practical safeguards include:
- Least privilege and least agency for every tool
- Strict argument and schema validation
- Human approval for destructive actions
- Tool-call budgets and rate limits
- Detection for dangerous tool sequences
