AI Security ≠ AppSec 2.0

AI isn’t “just another API.” It interprets language, not rules. When AI started showing up in our applications, many of us treated it like something familiar just another API, just another integration and honestly, that reaction made sense. But AI doesn’t behave like code. It listens, interprets, and tries to be helpful in ways that can quietly surprise us. Text can turn into instructions, data can influence decisions, and the model doesn’t really understand risk or impact.

That’s why AI security isn’t AppSec 2.0. It’s less about adding more controls, and more about slowing down, rethinking trust, and designing with care.

I’m curious how others are thinking about this. If you’re building or securing AI-powered systems today,  • what’s been the biggest shift for your mindset, architecture, or trust?   • What surprised you the most once AI moved from experimentation into real production workflows?

Would love to hear your thoughts and learn from your experiences in the comments.
